Regenerative Agriculture

At Nude Foods, one of our sourcing principles is that we get products (produce / meat) from Regenerative Farms that we have visited ourselves. We also give 1% to support farms transitioning to Regenerative Farming.

Let us explain why this is important:

Here’s the problem; since the early 1900’s humans have been engaging in farming practices that aren’t exactly nice to our farm lands. We’ve tilled the land, planted the same crop on the same land year after year and sprayed countless tonnes of chemical fertilizer and pesticides to keep everything alive. UGH.

These practices have caused our soils to degrade significantly resulting in BIG problems like:

  • Loss of productivity on the land
  • Production of less nutritious food
  • Pollution of nearby waterways
  • Release of CO2 in the atmosphere

In fact, 10-20% of the CO2 humans
have released into the atmosphere
since the Industrial Revolution
has been from our soils!

WHAAAAAT?!

Regenerative Agriculture not only STOPS,
but reverses this cycle of soil degradation.

How? By:

  • No or low tilling
  • Planting cover crops and rotating crops
  • Applying compost and animal manure
  • Properly grazing animals.

Which:

  • Captures and stores CO2 so in the end can reverse global warming!!!
  • Improves soil for better crop yields and water retention
  • Creates new soil, plant, insect and microbial diversity
  • Makes the land more resilient to extreme weather and increases 
its ability to sequester carbon dioxide
