The Problem
"The average American produces 1,704 pounds of trash each year. That’s enough to fill 23 million garbage trucks, which is 50 garbage trucks per minute!
And before we pat ourselves on the back for our awesome recycling habits here in Colorado, only 12% of our waste gets recycled, which is well under the national average of 35%. Plus recycling plastic is really DOWNcycling as plastic degrades quickly during recycling so can only be recycled a couple of times.
Plastics shed microplastics and degrade into nanoplastics. These have been found in the placentas of unborn babies, in our drinking water, in our deepest oceans and even at the top of Everest and can cause fertility issues, cardiovascular disease and even cancer. UGH."
The Solution
There is no way to clean up the 42,000 tons of microplastics going into the environment each year so we NEED to curb our use of plastic and stop using recycling as a 'get out of jail free' card because it is NOT a sustainable solution.
Reuse is by far the best way to do this. At Nude Foods Market, instead of food packaging being single use (you take it home, use it, trash it / recycle it), our packaging can be used an infinite number of times. All you need to do is get it back to us and we'll deal with the rest.
