Used in East Asian cooking for thousands of years, Seitan is a plant-based, high protein, low fat, and cholesterol-free alternative to meat. Blackbird food’s original seitan was created by award-winning chef Mark Mebus of Philadelphia-based Blackbird Pizzaria in partnership with Mark’s friends of NYC’s popular Terri Restaurants. Seitan’s meaty texture makes it an excellent substitute for animal-based protein.
Ingredients: Unbleached high-gluten flour, water, organic shoyu (organic whole soybeans, organic whole wheat, salt), lemon juice.

We love it in: This Seitan Sandwich. Combining the elements described in the ‘Wizard of Oz’ style above. Philly cheesesteaks are often a strong craving of mine, and this seitan is the perfect substitute for beef.

Cooking Directions: Seitan is pre-cooked, so can be warmed and served in your favorite recipes in place of meat. Lightly pan-frying, air-frying, or baking the seitan is a popular way to prepare it.
